Thinking About

Thinking About. Duo Moving Sounds
composed and improvised music – opening sound spaces

Intuitive music and compositions

The music on this first CD by Markus Stockhausen and Tara Bouman is described as “intuitive music and compositions”. But just what is “intuitive music”?

It is easier to say what it is not – intuitive: not intellect driven, not planned, not calculated, not superficial, not self orientated. It could mean: creative, organic, lively or spiritual. This best describes the music of the two, and this astounding quality remains even when it has been notated. It seems in an almost magical way to be drawn directly out of inner space and at the same time out of the natural order of sound, which exists regardless of our actions.

Trumpeter Markus Stockhausen belongs to one of the most renowned international figures of his genre not only in the area of jazz and improvisation but also in the field of new music.

Tara Bouman, who studied clarinet in Amsterdam, has been Stockhausen's musical and private partner since 2000. She has made a name herself mostly as an interpreter of contemporary chamber music. Her most recent production released on the label Aktivraum was the solo panorama “Contemporary”. with works from, among others, Pierre Boulez and Karlheinz Stockhausen.

The joint CD “Thinking About” combines three free improvisations and one fixed composition with hybrid works consisting of spontaneous and written parts. In two of the pieces the duo becomes a trio as a result of applying the multi track technique. The resulting pieces from Bouman and Stockhausen benefit from their enormous technical proficiency without losing the magic of the music.
